This movie was great, and seeing two fabulous leading men, William Powell and Clark Gable, acting together in the same movie is a double treat and consummate eye candy for the ladies! Thus, Im sure "Manhattan Melodrama" was a box office hit in 1934. A great plot that showed that not all, but most political leaders in that day and age had integrity and dignity and followed the rule of law despite partisan, personal and emotional attachments. So unlike the lowlife degenerates that are politicians today. Jim (WP) as Governor had a difficult and painful decision to make; save his brother Blackie's (CG's) life because he was like family and he loved him, or allow Blackie to be executed because he knew he was a murderer and had to be punished for his crime. I thought Myrna Loy (Eleanor) was so wrong and selfish in giving her man an ultimatum to choose between her and letting Blackie live. That put too much pressure on him.Excellent writing, production and acting. This one is a classic gem.
